A nine-year-old Dalit girl from Bihar's Muzaffarpur, who was raped and stabbed, died at a state-run hospital in Patna after she was left waiting for hours due to unavailability of beds in the hospital on Sunday.
Four days ago on May 26, a minor girl was raped in her village Kundli in Muzaffarpur. The girl was brought to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a critical condition four days after she was denied treatment by AIIMS, Patna, reported ANI.
A police officer familiar with the case said, “The girl died this morning. Her throat and chest were brutally slashed by the accused. He had also attempted to kill her by slitting her throat. Her vocal cords were damaged, and she was unable to speak. The accused was arrested."
On Sunday, several Congress workers held a protest demanding justice in the case.
Speaking at the protest, Bihar Congress Chief Rajesh Ram said, "There are two aspects to this case. First, that she was raped. After the rape, there was a brutal attempt to murder her. And second, the government left no stone unturned in its negligence. Due to the delay in treatment, that girl is no longer alive. For this, the government is directly responsible for the failure of the healthcare system. Go see for yourself."
However, PMCH Incharge Superintendent Abhijit Singh denied the claims made by the victim's family on the delay of treatment and stated that the girl who was brought to PMCH in a severely injured condition had been given proper medical care.
Congress slams NDA government
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday lashed out at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by Nitish Kumar, alleging that the 'double-engine' government's negligence led to the death of the minor Dalit girl.
In a post on X, LoP Gandhi said, "The brutality against a minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur and the subsequent negligence in her treatment is extremely shameful. If she had received timely treatment, her life could have been saved. But the double-engine government was negligent not only in providing security but also in saving his life," he said.
The Congress leader further in his post assured that justice would be served to the victim's family.
"We will not sit quietly until the victim's family gets justice. Strict action should be taken against the culprits and negligent officers," the post read.
