The Meghalaya Police will soon reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra as part of their probe into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a deep gorge on June 2. His wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, is among five people arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill him during their vacation in the hill state.
The crime scene reconstruction is part of a broader investigation codenamed 'Operation Honeymoon', launched by a special investigation team (SIT) that collected crucial evidence from multiple locations in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh), where the accused were arrested.
Sonam Raghuvanshi was brought to Meghalaya around midnight on Tuesday.
According to a senior police officer, she was taken for a medical examination to determine whether or not she is pregnant. She will likely be produced before a local court on Wednesday, with the SIT expected to seek her police custody for further interrogation.
The four other accused, arrested from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, are also expected to be brought to the state shortly. Police have already secured a six-day remand for those apprehended in Indore and a three-day remand for the one arrested from Ghazipur.
According to police, Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 while vacationing in Meghalaya's scenic Sohra region. The subsequent discovery of Raja’s body sparked a multi-state investigation that led to the arrests.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the crime reconstruction would help investigators piece together the chain of events and motives behind the killing.
The case remains under active investigation, with more details expected to surface in the coming days.
