A man who had filed a corruption case against former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) over the construction of the Medigadda barrage was found murdered in Jayashankar Bhupalpally town on February 19, police officials said.
N Rajalingamurthy, in his 50s, had raised allegations against KCR and others, accusing them of being responsible for the collapse of piers at the Medigadda barrage, part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
The murder took place just a day before a crucial High Court hearing was scheduled to address KCR's petition challenging the case initiated by Rajalingamurthy.
According to police, Rajalingamurthy was attacked by two unidentified individuals on Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm while he was riding his motorcycle. The assailants stabbed him, and he succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
However, the police have ruled out any political motive behind the incident, stating that it stemmed from an ongoing land dispute, news agency PTI reported.
Police teams have been deployed to identify the culprits and the body has been sent to the Bhupalpally Government Hospital for postmortem.
Rajalingamurthy had filed a private complaint in October 2023, seeking an FIR against KCR and other officials after some piers of the Medigadda barrage sank. When the police initially refused to register his complaint, he took the matter to court, which led to the case being taken up by the High Court.
He had joined the Congress party ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, and his wife, Sarala, had previously served as a councillor in the Bhupalapally municipality. The police have formed special teams to investigate the murder and identify the attackers, with further inquiries underway.
