In yet another case of murder in the national capital, a 40-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband at their home in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram, after which he called the police and claimed that she had died by suicide.
According to the police, the accused, who has been identified as Dinesh Sharma, strangled his wife, Sushma Sharma, before contacting authorities to report her “suicide.”
When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman’s body lying on the floor, while the couple’s 11-year-old daughter was asleep on the bed in the same room.
During questioning, Dinesh allegedly confessed to killing his wife by smothering her with a pillow. He works as a priest in a local temple, NDTV reported. The woman’s body was sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for a post-mortem. NDTV further reported that the accused has been arrested.
However, the woman’s family has raised serious allegations, claiming that the police are downplaying the case instead of investigating it properly.
“She (our sister) died late last evening, around 12 or 1 am. But the police informed us about it only this morning at 6 am,” said Ashok Kumar, the victim’s brother.
The family of the victim has further claimed that the murder was not over a domestic argument, as suggested by police, but was linked to the husband’s alleged extramarital affair.
“The police says that the couple had a domestic quarrel over food and that our brother-in-law killed our sister. But the real reason is our brother-in-law's extramarital affair. Our sister had been complaining to the family about it for years,” the brother added.
Reports said that the investigation in the case is currently underway. NDTV further reported police as saying that all the angles, including the family’s allegations, are being verified as part of the ongoing probe ion the case.
