A man, who allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Pune's Swargate bus station, was arrested from Shirur Tehsil in Maharashtra at around midnight after a two-day manhunt.

The accused, Dattatray Gade (37), was hiding at a sugarcane farm in Shirur. Since yesterday, 13 teams of Pune Police had been searching for him in the region. Late at night, he visited someone’s house for a meal and that person immediately alerted the police, leading to his arrest, officials said, India Today reported.

The woman was allegedly raped by history-sheeter Gade (37) early morning on Tuesday inside an ST bus.

Gade has at least half a dozen cases of theft, robbery and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar district. He has been out on bail since 2019 in one of the offences, PTI reported.

The police had also deployed sniffer dogs and drones as part of a search operation within the tracts of sugarcane crop located in Shirur Tehsil in Pune district.
