Main accused in Greater Noida dowry case who burnt his wife alive sent to 14-days judicial custody

Vipin Bhati, who is the main accused in the Greater Noida dowry case, has been sent to judicial custody. Vipin and his mother Dayawati have been named in the case after they thrashed the victim, Nikki, and then set her ablaze in front of her son.

This comes after Dayawati was arrested in the case earlier on Sunday. Vipin, meanwhile, was shot in the leg by the UP Police while he was trying to escape.

Horrifying videos emerged on social media, showing Nikki, while she was set on fire, walking down the stairs. She was set ablaze in front of her son, who later confirmed that something was poured onto her before she was set on fire using a lighter.

“We gave them everything, even a top model Scorpio car, yet they killed my sister,” said Rohit, brother of Nikki. Speaking to News18, Rohit said all demands were met during Nikki’s marriage to Vipin in 2016. “We had gifted a top model of the Scorpio car at the wedding, along with all the daily-use items,” he said.

On Sunday, in an interview with NDTV, Nikki's father, Bhikari Singh Payla,  demanded that the accused be shot dead in an encounter and their house be razed as punishment for the murder of his daughter.

Demanding punishment for his daughter’s killers, Payla told NDTV, “They are killers, they should be shot, their home razed. My daughter was bringing up her son by running a parlour. They tortured her. The whole family was involved in the conspiracy, and they killed my daughter."
