Mahua Moitra faces backlash for supporting racist post against Diwali, issues clarification

A major controversy erupted after Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra backed a social media post that condemned Indians celebrating Diwali abroad. It also evoked strong reactions from netizens.

Moitra wrote “I agree” to a post on X that stated, “Just like that, we’ve let braindead fucking Indians turn our beautiful Western countries into total shitholes with their retarded Diwali garbage that has zero to do with us.”

One X user said Mahua Moitra didn’t just agree with a racist. “She agreed with an insult to every Indian celebrating Diwali. The same MP who stays silent on Bengal’s chaos suddenly finds her voice when it’s about mocking India. She doesn’t represent WB, she represents self-loathing in Parliament,” the user said.

Another user said, “Mahua Moitra hates Indians. She gives Parliaments' access to the highest bidder. Her party survives on Bangladeshi voters.”

A foreign hate-monger, while criticizing the celebration of Hindu festival Diwali abroad, called Indians "brain dead", "shithole", and compared Diwali to retard and garbage.

“Mahua Moitra siding with an anti-India rant against Diwali isn’t shocking — it’s expected. The same MP who sold her Parliament login for cash is now selling out her own culture for applause from the Wes,” wrote another user.

Trinamool MP clarifies

“Just clarifying my twitter feed was showing a lot of videos and I meant to say “ I agree” to a video just below the racist one by some Nate. My mistake. Travelling & didn't check till now. Thanks @RShivshankar for calling me out but it was a genuine mistake. Sorry trolls,” she posted on X.

BJP slams Moitra

In a post on X, BJP’s West Bengal unit said this is the same Mahua Moitra “who believes that Bangladesh is better than India and has compromised national security in exchange for luxury handbags”.

“MPs from the Trinamool party consider Kashmir, an inseparable part of India, as “Azad Kashmir", finds "tourists" in terrorists! Under their rule in West Bengal, unspeakable atrocities are committed against women and children if they dare to burst firecrackers during Diwali. In several places, Kali temples have been attacked—simply because Hindus were performing Kali Puja in West Bengal. This is the same Mahua Moitra who once described Goddess Kali as a “goddess of meat and liquor,” it said.
