Karnataka Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology Department has registered a case against a gas agency in Kolar district for allegedly carrying out illegal LPG refilling.
In a statement, the department said strict legal action is being taken against the use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.
Officials seized domestic cylinders being used commercially - 45 in Peenya, Bengaluru; 209 in Chikkajala; three in Shivamogga district; 46 in Davanagere; and 13 in Yadgir - under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
As per central government guidelines, 20 percent of the total commercial cylinders will be supplied to hospitals, schools, educational institutions, airports, railway stations, bus stands, canteens and major temples for distribution of prasad. Commercial cylinders will also be supplied on priority to government offices, old-age homes and key private sector offices.
The department said 386,363 domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) and 6,371 commercial cylinders were distributed across the state on Saturday, adding that steps have been taken to ensure there is no disruption in domestic LPG supply.
