India publishes Gazette notification honouring Gallantry awardees from Defence forces, including Operation Sindoor

A status report submitted to the Supreme Court has said the unhygienic condition of toilets in court complexes across India amounts to a violation of fundamental rights and human dignity.

The report cited systemic failures in maintenance, fund allocation, and inclusivity, noting the lack of facilities for persons with disabilities and the third gender. It also highlighted the absence of functional creches, which hinders gender equality in the legal profession. The submissions were made in a PIL filed by lawyer Rajeeb Kalita.

After the S-400 air defence system reportedly downed several Pakistani aircraft during Operation Sindoor, India is set to buy missiles worth around ₹10,000 crore from Russia to strengthen its air defence. The proposal is expected to be taken up by the Defence Ministry on October 23 as talks continue for additional S-400 squadrons and advanced systems.

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said he is committed to disarming Hamas and demilitarising the Gaza Strip during a speech before the Knesset on Monday, as Palestinian officials arrived in Cairo for further peace negotiations.

The Israeli military said on Sunday that Hamas had violated the agreement and two of its fighters had killed two Israeli soldiers in Rafah. Israel then carried out a “massive and extensive wave” of strikes across the Gaza Strip.

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about developments in the region. U.S. Vice President JD Vance and the second lady, Usha Vance, are scheduled to visit Tuesday and meet with Netanyahu, the prime minister said in a speech.

According to Gaza's media office, Israel has committed up to 80 violations since the US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas came into effect on October 10. At least 97 Palestinians have been killed and over 230 wounded in these attacks.

Israel on Sunday launched several attacks on Gaza, in clear violation of the ceasefire deal, kiling at least 45 Palestinians, including children. Journalists and medical professionals were among those killed in the attacks. Israel also blocked the entry of humanitarian assistance into the famine-struck enclave.

The Israeli military said Monday it was using concrete barriers and painted poles to more clearly delineate the so-called yellow line in Gaza to where troops have withdrawn and several instances of violence have occurred.

The ceasefire’s next stage is expected to focus on disarming Hamas, Israeli withdrawal from additional areas it controls in Gaza, and future governance of the devastated territory. The U.S. plan proposes the establishment of an internationally backed authority.
