A social media post by Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has drawn attention after she shared that her son, Aditya, has begun a two-year Basic Military Training in Singapore.
“Today my heart is filled with pride. After completing his Pre-University studies, our eldest son Aditya has gone for a two-year Basic Military Training at just 18 years of age,” she wrote.
Addressing her son, she added: “Aditya, you are brave, courageous, and disciplined. Go and do wonders. Always remember, warriors are forged in life’s toughest battles. All our love and encouragement will always be with you.”

Rohini Acharya has been living in Singapore with her family for several years. Under Singaporean law, all male citizens and permanent residents must undergo compulsory National Service after turning 18. As a second-generation Permanent Resident, Aditya is required to serve in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
The Basic Military Training (BMT) that Aditya is undergoing is the initial phase of National Service, designed to build discipline, physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership. After completing BMT, conscripts are assigned to the Army, Navy, Air Force, or non-combat support units, with reservist duties continuing until the age of 40 or 50, depending on rank.
While the training is military in nature, it is mandatory conscription, not a voluntary or special enlistment. Singapore enforces strict penalties for evasion, and the requirement applies to all eligible residents.
The family’s post highlights a personal moment of pride as Aditya begins a formative chapter of his life, combining a sense of duty with parental encouragement.
