Lalu's family row in public not new: Why Tejashwi's wife Rachel became Rajshri

Tejashwi's wife, Rajshree Yadav, gave birth to a baby boy at a private hospital in Kolkata in May.

Just hours after RJD’s crushing defeat, party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya said she was “quitting politics and disowning her family.”

Rohini alleged she was subjected to filthy abuses and that someone even attempted to hit her with a slipper during a confrontation involving two of Tejashwi Yadav’s closest aides, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez.

A day after her announcement, four more of the RJD chief’s daughters, Rajlakshmi, Ragini, Hema and Chanda, quietly left the family’s Patna residence with their children and travelled to Delhi.

However, this is not the first time that the feud in the Yadav family has gone public.

A huge row had erupted in 2021 when RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav married long-time friend Rachel Godinho. As he was marrying a Christian girl, Tejashwi’s uncle Sadhu Yadav said they would “boycott" Lalu Prasad’s younger son and “teach him a lesson".

After he landed in Bihar with his wife, Tejashwi said Rachel has been rechristened as Rajshri by Lalu Prasad himself for the sake of ease of pronunciation.

He also responded to his maternal uncle Sadhu Yadav’s objection to him marrying a Christian woman instead of within the Yadav caste. Calling it “confusion", he said he didn’t want to make personal remarks as he still respected his uncle.

“We are young people with new ideas and thoughts…when we talk about ending discrimination…we are Lohiaite and Samajwadi, there shouldn’t be any discrimination," he said as quoted by News18.

While Tejashwi Yadav didn't complete his Class 10, Rajshri Yadav, on the other hand, is a graduate. However, she has always kept a low profile despite being the wife of a prominent politician. Before her marriage, she worked as an airhostess

Though she avoids public speeches or political statements, she has been seen accompanying Tejashwi to key events and encouraging his political journey from the sidelines. In May, the couple welcomed their second child, a son.

Rohini Acharya, welcoming the new member, wrote on X, "Junior Tejaswi has arrived in our family's courtyard. Hearty congratulations to dear sister-in-law Rajshri - brother Tejaswi, dear Katyayani as well as our entire family and the entire Rashtriya Janata Dal family. May our family always be filled with happiness and may Papa and Maa's courtyard be filled with laughter... Special congratulations to Papa and Maa, she said.
