Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday ruled out alliance with its INDIA bloc partner Congress for the upcoming Bihar elections, saying that his party will context the polls solo.
"We don't have any alliance with Congress. Had there been any alliance, then why would they (Congress) contest the bypolls in Visavadar (Gujarat). They contested the polls to defeat us," Kejriwal said. AAP had won the by-election in Visavadar last month.
Taking a dig at Congress, the former Delhi chief minister said that the grand old party contested the Visavadar election at the behest of BJP to hurt AAP's prospects.
"BJP sent Congress to defeat AAP and cut our votes. BJP scolded Congress for not doing its work properly as it failed to do a good job," Kejriwal said.
The AAP leader clarified that INDIA bloc was only for the Lok Sabha elections and there is no alliance with Congress anymore.
Earlier, AAP leader Sanjay Singh had announced that the party will be throwing its hat in the ring for the Bihar assembly polls, which are due later this year.
AAP’s entry into Bihar signals a continued push to expand beyond its strongholds in Delhi and Punjab, building on its recent electoral foray in Gujarat and Goa.
AAP and Congress contested the Lok Sabha elections in several states as part of the broader INDIA bloc. However, the parties later indicated that the alliance was only for the Lok Sabha polls and contested the Delhi elections separately.
