Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday criticised Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and his wife, Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty, for not participating in the state’s socio-educational survey, saying their understanding of the exercise was mistaken.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "Should Infosys (founder) mean ‘Brihaspati’ (intelligent)? We have said 20 times it’s not a backward classes survey but a survey for everyone. Narayana Murthy thought that this was a survey of the backward classes, he was wrong. The survey is for the entire population, including the poor and upper castes. There seems to be a lot of misinformation circulating. We have conveyed through advertisements and official messages that this is not limited to backward classes.”
The survey, which covers about 7 crore residents of Karnataka, is aimed at gathering economic, educational, and social data. Siddaramaiah added, "It is wrong to think of the survey as a backward class survey. Even the central government plans to conduct a caste census soon. Cooperation should be universal. Their reluctance may be due to misinformation.”
On investments, the CM reacted to a tweet by Andhra minister Nara Lokesh highlighting foreign investments in Andhra Pradesh, saying, “Investors go where it is convenient. Karnataka has attracted significant investment, including the largest iPhone manufacturing facility.”
Regarding allegations of a commission racket in the Congress-led government, he said, "Let those making allegations go to court. These claims against the government are deliberate and unfounded.”
