Karnataka CM leads Tiranga Yatra in Bengaluru to express solidarity with armed forces

The march was organised in support of 'Operation Sindoor', with the party hailing the courage of armed forces

Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on May 9 led a Tiranga Yatra organised by the ruling Congress party in Bengaluru to express solidarity with armed forces after a fiery night of missile and drone exchanges between India and Pakistan.

He deputy, DK Shivakumar, ministerial colleagues, party MLAs and members of public joined him in the 2-km march from KR Circle to Minsk Square near Chinnaswamy Stadium. Participants waved the national flag and shouted slogans, hailing the armed forces.

“We’ve invited all sections of society to salute our armed forces and stand united. I’m glad people from all walks — veterans, students, and political parties — have joined us. India is stronger and, as under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, we will prevail again," Shivakumar said.

On May 8 night, India repulsed waves of Pakistani missiles and drone attacks aimed at its border areas and military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and other locations.

A day earlier, India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours , hitting nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir two weeks after 26 people were killed in a terror strike in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.

“We want to show our full support for the Indian armed forces and appreciate their actions. This rally is a symbolic expression of that solidarity," home minister G Parameshwara said,

Law, parliamentary affairs and legislation and tourism minister HK Patil said the Tiranga Yatra expressed Karnataka's our support for the armed forces, who’ve shown India’s strength. "We don’t seek escalation, but won’t stay silent if provoked,” he added.

In an all-party meeting held on May 8, the Congress extended support to the government, which briefed the opposition parties on Operation Sindoor.
