A Jharkhand Jaguar constable was killed and a CRPF jawan was injured in an IED explosion in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Saturday, a police official reported.
The incident took place at the Radhapora area under Jaraikela police station limits, he said.
Kolhan DIG Manoj Ratan Chothe told PTI, "Two jawans — one from CoBRA 203 battalion and another from Jharkhand Jaguar — were injured in the incident. Both were airlifted to Ranchi for better treatment."
The two injured personnel were identified as Vishnu Saini of the CoBRA unit and Sunil Dhan of Jharkhand Jaguar.
A police statement confirmed that Dhan succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Ranchi.
The statement also mentioned that Saini's condition is critical.
"In a forested area located between the border of Chhotanagra and Jaraikela police stations, Naxalites opened fire and triggered an IED targeting security forces during an operation on Saturday. In response, security forces retaliated. However, the Maoists took advantage of the dense forests to escape," the statement added.
Chothe mentioned that a anti-Maoist operation is in progress in the area, and several IEDs have been neutralized by the security forces during the course of the operation.
