In a major security development, Jammu and Kashmir Police have recovered two AK-47 rifles and 350 kilograms of explosives from Faridabad, Haryana, following disclosures made by the second doctor arrested in the ongoing investigation into alleged militant links.
The recovery comes days after an AK-47 rifle was found in the personal locker of Dr Adeel, a senior resident at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag, reported News 18. His arrest led authorities to another doctor, who has now been detained for questioning, officials said.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, both doctors, hailing from Qazigund and Pulwama districts, were arrested after the first recovery at GMC Anantnag. Srinagar Police are leading the probe, which has now widened beyond Jammu and Kashmir to include possible links in Haryana.
A senior police officer confirmed the recovery and said a case has been registered under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and Sections 13, 28, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, reported Greater Kashmir. “All legal protocols are being followed, and further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the weapons and explosives,” the report said, quoting the officer.
Officials added that both doctors are being interrogated to determine how the weapons reached the hospital premises and whether a larger network is involved. Other staff members from the college are also being questioned.
“The AK-47s and RDX have been seized and are in police custody,” the officer said. “More details will be shared once the inquiry progresses.”
