The suppliers of drones dropped in Koutruk and Kadangband in Imphal in September last year were based in Delhi and Haryana, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation has revealed.
According to the NIA, the kingpin who bought these drone bombs from Delhi-based Mayank Sharma and Rohtak-based Vikram Chaudhary after paying a hefty amount is a local man named Khaigoulen Kipgen from Gamngai village.
The NIA said Kipgen bought these drones and their accessories including batteries from Kumar and Chaudhary by paying money in cash and online.
The NIA has been probing the attack on Koutruk, Kadangband and Senjam Chirang in Imphal West on September 1, 2024 by suspected Kuki militants, after taking over the investigations on September 20.
The NIA report submitted at the NIA court also claimed that another person, Laikangbam Albert Singh (36), had also bought drones and batteries from Sharma and Chaudhary.
A 31-year-old woman, Ngangbam Surbala Devi, was killed, while her six-year-old daughter was injured in the attack. Locals said it appeared as if it rained bombs from the hills by drones taking sorties for several hours.
More than 40 bombs were dropped for the first time in Manipur's history with the help of drones by Kuki terrorists in the September 2024 attack.
