MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, took to X to share some images of the rescue operation and stated, "Operation Sagar Bandhu saves lives. Several people were rescued through Indian Navy helicopter sorties in the cyclone-affected areas in Sri Lanka today."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a red alert in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as Cyclone Ditwah approaches closer to the coastal areas.

A Delhi court today deferred its order on taking cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald case. Special Judge Vishal Gogne adjourned the matter, scheduling the pronouncement of the order for December 16. The case pertains to alleged financial irregularities linked to the National Herald newspaper and has been under investigation by the ED.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi today commented on the ongoing leadership tussle in Karnataka, noting that the issue is receiving more attention in the media than within the party itself.

Speaking to reporters, Chaturvedi said that the Congress has clarified that internal discussions are underway and a decision will be taken in due course. “The party has a commitment to fulfil, made to the people of Karnataka. They understand the responsibility that comes with the mandate given by the voters,” she added.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar arrived at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence around 10 am today for a scheduled breakfast meeting amid ongoing tensions within the state’s Congress leadership. Siddaramaiah had extended the invitation following instructions from the party high command, which has asked both leaders to resolve their differences before heading to Delhi.

Legal advisor to the Chief Minister, AS Ponnanna, was also present at the meeting, which comes at a time of heightened political activity and speculation over possible leadership and Cabinet changes.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar are slated to begin the breakfast discussion shortly in the Chief Minister's residence, amid escalating tensions within the ruling Congress over a leadership change.

Vivek Chaturvedi, Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), has been appointed as the new Chairman of the board, reported ANI today.

Chaturvedi will now head the country’s apex indirect tax administration body, which oversees GST, customs, and central excise.

The Election Commission (EC) has asked West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar to step up security for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, following reports of a potential threat to their safety.

This is the second notice in three days from the EC to the state government regarding the protection of poll officials. On Wednesday, the commission had written to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, expressing concern over a “serious security breach” at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office during protests by BLOs complaining of “excessive work pressure.”

The Judicial Inquiry Commission probing the Leh unrest has extended its deadline by 10 days to collect statements and evidence, following a request from the Leh Apex Body (LAB).

Led by ex-Supreme Court judge BS Chauhan, the three-member panel was tasked in October with investigating the September 24 clashes that left four civilians dead, including a 1999 Kargil war veteran, and around 90 injured. The commission is reviewing police actions and the chain of events that escalated the protests. Meanwhile, tensions continue to simmer in Karnataka as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are set to meet today to discuss the ongoing leadership dispute in the Congress-led government.

Shivakumar, supported by a faction within the party, has urged the Congress to honour what he describes as a power-sharing arrangement, seeking to take over as Chief Minister as the government nears its halfway point. The meeting has been convened at the directive of the Congress High Command, aiming to mediate differences between the two senior leaders. While Shivakumar has stated he is “in no hurry” to assert his claim, Siddaramaiah reaffirmed that his position as Chief Minister remains unchanged.

The Indian Air Force today airlifted approximately 12 tons of humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar announced on X.

A C-130J aircraft carrying relief materials, including tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, and ready-to-eat food items, landed in Colombo to support communities affected by recent crises, he said.

“Operation Sagar Bandhu unfolds. Indian Air Force C-130J plane carrying approx 12 tons of humanitarian aid lands in Colombo,” Dr. Jaishankar tweeted, highlighting India’s ongoing assistance to its neighbour in times of need.

Hong Kong held a solemn day of remembrance on Saturday following a massive fire at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex that has so far claimed at least 128 lives, with around 200 residents still missing. Officials have warned that the death toll may rise as recovery and investigation efforts continue.

The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon and rapidly consumed seven of the eight 32-storey towers in the Tai Po district. The buildings, undergoing renovation, were covered with bamboo scaffolding, green mesh, and flammable foam insulation—factors now under investigation. Authorities also confirmed that fire alarms in the estate, home to more than 4,600 residents, were reportedly not functioning during the blaze.

In connection with the disaster, police have detained 11 individuals, including directors and engineering consultants from Prestige Construction, the firm responsible for the renovations. Investigators are examining potential manslaughter, corruption, and the use of unsafe building materials.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump spoke with Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro last week and the two explored the possibility of an in-person meeting, the New York Times has reported, citing people familiar with the call.

No meeting has been scheduled so far, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also joined the conversation, the report said.

The call came as Washington steps up pressure on Caracas through an expanded counter-narcotics campaign targeting drug networks the US links to Maduro’s government. The Delhi Metro rolled out special early-morning services today to support the smooth movement of polling personnel ahead of Sunday’s MCD bye-elections across 12 wards.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said trains began operating at 4 am today, starting services earlier than usual to facilitate staff deployment. Services will again start at 4 am on polling day, November 30, with trains running every 30 minutes until 6 am before switching to the normal Sunday timetable. The last train will depart at 11:30 pm, extending operations by 30 minutes.

DMRC will follow a similar schedule on December 3, the counting day, when trains will also begin at 4 am with half-hourly frequency till 6 am, after which the regular weekday timetable will apply.

South Africa has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump’s decision to exclude the country from the G20 during America’s presidency, calling the move “regrettable” and driven by “misinformation”.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office said Trump had continued to impose “punitive measures” on South Africa despite repeated attempts by Pretoria to improve bilateral ties.

The tensions escalated after the US skipped the G20 Leaders’ Summit hosted by South Africa last week, with Washington sending no official delegation. South Africa later handed over the G20 presidency instruments to a US Embassy representative at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

A woman was shot dead by her boyfriend following a heated argument in a village near Noida on Friday night, police said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Shakti Mohan Awasthi, the victim, identified as 25-year-old Sonu from Yakubpur village, was in a relationship with a man named Krishna. The two reportedly got into a dispute, during which Krishna allegedly opened fire, killing her on the spot.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and Krishna is currently on the run. Police have formed four teams to trace and arrest him.
