India to present evidence of TRF’s involvement in Pahalgam attack at UNSC today: Report

India is sending a team to the UNSC with the latest evidence of Pakistan's complicity with terrorism, with proofs specifically pin-pointing TRF's role in the 22 April terror attack where 26 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, says report.

Operation Sindoor: India will furnish proof of Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot The Resistance Front's (TRF) involvement in Pahalgam terror attack before the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday night. News18 reported that th evidence will be presented by India before the UNSCR 1267 sanctions committee when it meets on Wednesday night.

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, had said that India is pursuing listing of TRF in the United Nations by the United Nations Security Council by the UNCC 1267 sanctions committee. "TRF is one organization which is a front of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and you would understand that we have been pursuing listing of TRF in the United Nations by the United Nations Security Council by the UNCC 1267 sanctions committee," he said.

Jaiswal said that India is sharing the details of the investigations of the attack with the UNSC, hoping that they would take note of it. "Over the last two years or so, since 2023-24 we have been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council, the monitoring team of the sanctions committee as to why the terrorist TRF which is the front for Lashkar-e-Taiba should be listed as a terrorist entity. We will be also in few days will be sharing more details in this regard and hopefully security council 1267 monitoring team will take strong note of what we present, what we file and take due action against that is required," he added.

Alongside this, ANI reported that India is sending a team to the UNSC with the latest evidence of Pakistan's complicity with terrorism, with proofs specifically pin-pointing TRF's role in the 22 April terror attack where 26 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

TRF, a designated terror outfit, emerged after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and has since been involved in killings, grenade attacks, terrorist recruitment, weapons smuggling and ambushes in Kashmir.

While approaching the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee with evidence against TRF, India will look to have it designated as a terror organisation with sanctions and travel bans imposed on its members.

What is UNSCR 1267 sanctions committee?

The UNSCR 1267 sanctions committee is one of the United Nations' subsidiary body that works towards counter-terror measures around the globe, specially in relation to Al-Qaida, ISIL (Da'esh) and related groups and individuals. The UNSCR oversees sanctions and measures related to these terror organisations and individuals associated with them.

The committee also manages and updates the sanctions lists and monitors and supports implementation of the sanctions regimes set out in UNSCR 1267 and related resolutions of the United Nations.

India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 to destroy nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pak-Occupied-Kashmir in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack.

India and Pakistan announced reaching an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, with effect from 5 pm on Saturday.

On Monday, in his first address to the nation after Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Operation Sindoor has carved out a new benchmark in India's fight against terrorism, and set up a new parameter and a new normal. "Indian armed forces executed precise strikes on terrorist hideouts and training centres in Pakistan, delivering a decisive blow," he had said.
