A day after India and Pakistan agreed for a truce following the fiercest standoff since Kargil War, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the Indian armed forces and said that the precision strikes during Operation Sindoor sent a strong message to Rawalpindi – the city of Pakistan Army’s headquarters. This was the first time when the Defence Minister spoke about the military operations and the impact felt in Pakistan.
Speaking virtually at the inauguration of a BrahMos missile production facility in Lucknow, Singh emphasised that Operation Sindoor was more than just a military response — it was a powerful assertion of India’s political, social, and strategic resolve against terrorism.

He said the operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of several Indian citizens. "Our forces have punished the anti-India elements and terrorists who snatched the vermilion from the foreheads of many families,” he said, referring to the lives lost.
Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor aimed to destroy nine terror infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. All subsequent retaliatory actions against Pakistani provocations were carried out under the same operation.

Singh highlighted that India and Pakistan had since reached an agreement to cease all hostilities — across land, air, and sea — effective immediately. He lauded the Indian military for the operation’s success and said the entire nation stood behind the armed forces.
“This operation demonstrates not just our military capability, but also our unyielding national will against terrorism,” Singh stated. “India has made it clear that any act of terror will be met with a decisive and far-reaching response — even territories across the border are no longer safe havens for terrorists and their sponsors.”
He reiterated that Indian forces had exercised great restraint and never targeted civilian areas, unlike Pakistan, which he accused of attacking Indian civilian zones and even attempting strikes on religious sites like temples, gurdwaras, and churches.
Singh also reminded the audience of India’s past decisive actions in response to terror attacks — from surgical strikes after Uri to the Balakot airstrikes following Pulwama. “Today, the world has witnessed once again how India, in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, crossed the border to deliver multiple strikes.”
It should be noted the in a post on Sunday, the Indian Air Force said that the “operation is still ongoing.”
