The Centre on Monday banned as many as 17 YouTube channels from Pakistan in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack that killed 27 tourists on April 22 last week. The decision was taken after the Ministry of Home Affairs made the recommendations against the channels, which have been seen as the source communal and provocative content. The Centre blocked these channels for showing misleading content against India and the Indian Army. These channels have over 60 million subscribers with many followers in India. Soo, after the circular was issued, many netizens noiticed that YouTube channel of former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has also been blocked. Just like the above-mentioned channels, if a user from India tries to access Akhtar’s account, the standard message appears on the screen: “This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order. For more details about government removal requests, please visit the Google Transparency Report (transparencyreport.google.com)”
The decision to block 16 Pakistani YouTube channels comes days after New Delhi suspended the Pakistani government’s X account in the country as tensioned rose between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
