Hours after a ceasefire was agreed between India and Pakistan, tensions between the countries escalated once again on Saturday evening after explosions rang out across the border areas.

The border areas from Srinagar and Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir to Barmer in Rajasthan and Kutch in Gujarat witnessed firings and drone sightings.

In a late-night press briefing, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistan broke the pact hours after Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries spoke.

Here are the five big updates since Saturday evening.

•Shortly after reports of ceasefire violation came in, foreign secretary issued a statement and confirmed that Pakistan violated understanding reached on stopping firings. “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding (which was) arrived at earlier this evening," Misri said.

He said the armed forces gave an adequate and appropriate response to these violations. “We take very, very serious notice of them. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility," he said, adding that forces remain alert and are closely monitoring the situation.

•Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur were again attacked by drones, while explosion sounds led to sirens and blackouts in Srinagar on Saturday evening.

There were reports of explosions and intermittent firing in Srinagar.

J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the fresh shelling and blasts reported in Srinagar on Saturday evening, asking on X, “What the hell just happened?”

•Some border districts in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir ordered blackouts as a precautionary measure. In Punjab, authorities ordered a blackout in about a dozen districts including Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Bathinda, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Gurdaspur.

Six drones were spotted near Harami Nala and Jakhau, and three more near Khavda. A complete blackout was declared across Kutch. Sirens were sounded in Bhuj, according to News18.

•On Sunday morning, Amritsar restored the power supply.  "We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don't move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don't panic," Amritsar DC in a statement issued at 5.24 am.

The situation in Jammu city reportedly remained normal on Sunday, a day after intense shelling from Pakistan. The situation was also normal in the Poonch area after no drones, firing and shelling were reported during the night, according to reports.

•China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday said that his country would continue to stand by Pakistan in upholding its “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence”, according to PTI.

The reports stated that the Chinese foreign minister "acknowledged Pakistan's restraint and appreciated its responsible approach under challenging circumstances."

"He reaffirmed that China, as Pakistan's All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partner and iron-clad friend, will continue to stand firmly by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence," Pakistan's Foreign Office told PTI.
