Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a Border Security Force (BSF) event on Friday, said that the Indian armed forces only targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during Operation Sindoor.
“We only hit terror camps and not Pakistan Army bases,” he said.
"Operation Sindoor took place when our Prime Minister's strong political will, accurate information from our intelligence gathering agencies and the Army's amazing display of lethality came together," Shah stated.
The Union Home Minister noted that India has been witnessing Pakistan-sponsored terrorism for many decades. He added that even though the neighbouring country continued to carry out such big attacks over the years, it was not given a proper response.
However, that changed after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014, Shah said.
"In 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was formed. An attack was made on our soldiers in Uri, and we did a surgical strike. After that, the Pulwama attack happened; in reply to which, we did an air strike. Now, in Pahalgam, innocent tourists were killed after asking about their religion. Operation Sindoor was the reply to it. The world is appreciating us for this. I salute the Army," the Home Minister added.
Under Operation Sindoor, India, on early May 7, destroyed nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation against the Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives. Following this, Pakistan attempted to attack the Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10.
The Pakistani actions were strongly responded to by the Indian side.
"When the attack on Pahalgam happened, after that, we launched Operation Sindoor. In just a few minutes of the operation, we destroyed nine terrorist bases, of which two were their headquarters. But what needs to be understood carefully is that we neither destroyed any Pakistani military installation nor did we ever target an airbase. We only and only destroyed terrorist camps, those who committed crimes on our land," Shah said.
