Delhi riots case: SC to hear bail pleas of Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid today

The Supreme Court on Friday will hear pleas of Sharjeel Imam, former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid, challenging the Delhi High Court order which denied them bail in the UAPA case linked to the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 north-east Delhi riots.

A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria will hear the matter.

The bench will also hear the pleas of Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider seeking bail in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.

C P Radhakrishnan to be sworn in as Vice-President today

President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office to Vice-President-elect C P Radhakrishnan on Friday, officials said.

Former Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan will be sworn in as the next VP at a ceremony scheduled to be held at 10 am at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, they said.

The 67-year-old Radhakrishanan won the vice presidential election on Tuesday, defeating the joint opposition nominee B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

The election was necessitated due to the sudden resignation of the then-incumbent, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21.
