India’s defence exports have jumped from Rs 600 crore in 2014 to Rs 24,000 crore today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday, setting an ambitious target of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029-30.
Singh, addressing industry representatives, stated the Centre is committed to making India self-reliant in the defence sector and has, hence, rolled out several measures to boost indigenous manufacturing.
The Narendra Modi government has notified a list of defence items that will no longer be imported and must be produced locally, he noted. Singh added that India’s current defence production stands at Rs 1.60 lakh crore, with the aim to scale it up to Rs 3 lakh crore.
Highlighting Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s potential as a defence production hub, Singh invited industry players to pitch viable projects. “You have a mature industrial ecosystem here. Come to me with concrete proposals,” he said.
