Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday confirmed that BrahMos missiles struck Pakistani air bases during Operation Sindoor, while Pakistan’s Chinese-supplied air defence systems remained unused.
Shah, speaking at an event, said the operation marked a major shift from earlier surgical strikes and airstrikes that were limited to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), stating that this time, Indian forces struck 100 km into Pakistan’s territory to eliminate terrorists and their infrastructure.
"As our indigenously developed BrahMos (supersonic cruise missile system) worked to destroy Pakistan's air bases, its own air defence system, borrowed from China, remained unused. Our Air Force carried out precise attacks and inflicted heavy damage on many places in Pakistan which were considered impregnable. Operation Sindoor will be written in golden letters when the history is written on the border safety," he said.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian and one Nepali citizen. The mission targeted and destroyed terror camps in both Pakistan and PoK, which were being used to orchestrate attacks on Indian soil.
Additionally, Shah said the operation not only neutralized key terror hubs but also exposed Pakistan’s long-standing denial of its involvement in terrorism.
"Terrorists were eliminated using missiles, and Pakistan's false narrative was shattered before the world," he said.
"The Indus River and blood cannot flow together. If terrorism continues, not a drop of water from the Indus will reach Pakistan," he added.
He reiterated PM Modi’s message that India will only engage in talks with Pakistan on the return of PoK and the eradication of terrorism.
