On May 7, India carried out military strikes on terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan under Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.

Indian officials briefed the monitoring team of the UN Security Council’s 1267 Sanctions Committee on the activities of The Resistance Front (TRF), the group behind the Pahalgam terror attack and itsestablished connection as an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist organisation.

According to News18, Indian team presented compelling evidence substantiating the link between TRF and LeT. The report stated that evidence included digital signatures, financial trails, and physical connections, all pointing towards TRF operating as a front for the UN-designated terror group LeT.

TRF, a front for Pakistan-based LeT, initially claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 that killed 26 people.

This is the first time since Operation Sindoor that New Delhi has raised TRF with the UN and its anti-terror bodies.

India had previously shared intelligence regarding TRF’s activities with the Monitoring Team of the UN’s 1267 Sanctions Committee in its bi-annual reports of May and November 2024. These reports detailed TRF’s role as a front for terrorist organizations based in Pakistan. In December 2023, India had also informed the monitoring team about the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) utilizing smaller groups like TRF as a cover for their operations.

On May 7, India carried out military strikes on terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan under Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.

This triggered four days of intense strikes and counter-strikes by the two countries using drones, missiles and long-range weapons before they reached an understanding on halting military actions on May 10.

The 1267 Sanctions Committee is responsible for managing and updating sanctions lists, and monitoring and supporting implementation of sanctions regimes under UN Security Council resolution 1267.

“We are going to be meeting with the [monitoring] team again very soon and we will be providing an update to the information that we have provided earlier,” foreign secretary Vikram Misri told during a media briefing on Operation Sindoor last week.

According to Indian Express, Indian officials have said that investigations into the Pahalgam terror attack have brought out the communication nodes of terrorists with Pakistan. They have also said that the claims made by TRF and their reposting by known social media handles of the LeT speak for themselves.
