The 11-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been a “transformative period” that deserves to be recorded “in golden words and golden letters", says Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda.
Nadda was addressing a press conference on Monday in the national capital on the first anniversary of the Modi government’s third term.
“We are completing 11 years of our government under the leadership of PM Modi. It is a very difficult task to summarise this period in a single press conference,” he said. Highlighting the government’s initiatives toward building a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) during the "Amrit Kaal", Nadda called the achievements of the past decade “unimaginable and unique.”
The BJP president underlined the inclusive nature of growth under PM Modi, citing significant shifts in governance, policy-making, and political accountability. “The direction set by PM Modi over these years has not only accelerated growth but also set a benchmark for future governance,” he said.
Nadda praised the Modi government’s 11-year tenure, calling it transparent, futuristic, and the foundation of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). Speaking in Delhi, Nadda said the government’s transformative journey began in 2014, ending an era marked by corruption and negativity under the previous regime.
“Before 2014, the previous government was full of corruption and a prevailing sense of negativity. But after 2014, under the leadership of PM Modi, that sentiment changed. Now people proudly say, ‘Modi hai to mumkin hai’,” he said.
Nadda highlighted several bold decisions taken by the government, including the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, a move once thought impossible by many. He noted that voter turnout in the region’s Assembly elections rose to 63%, reflecting the positive impact of the decision.
He also mentioned other landmark reforms such as the abolition of Triple Talaq, enactment of the New Waqf Act, the Citizenship Amendment Act, demonetisation, and 33% women reservation.
Further lauding governance under PM Modi, he said that the Central government has made “dedicated efforts” over the last decade to bring marginalised communities and women into the mainstream of national development, asserting that 25 crore people have risen above the poverty line during this period.
“Over the past decade, we have worked with deep concern for all sections of society, including SC, ST, and OBC communities. At the same time, we have actively promoted the vision of Women-Led Development,” Nadda said.
Highlighting key welfare initiatives, he pointed to the empowerment of Lakhpati Didis, promotion of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and extended maternity leave benefits with salary as examples of the government’s push for gender-inclusive policies.
“We have not come with the slogan of eradicating poverty, we have shown by doing welfare of the poor. The statistics are proof of this… 25 crore people in the country have come out of the poverty line. In this way, extreme poverty has been reduced by 80%,” he said, citing data to underline the government’s achievements.
On the economic front, he highlighted India’s rise from the 10th to the 5th largest economy globally, with projections placing it at 4th position soon, and reaffirmed India’s status as the fastest-growing economy.
The BJP chief also underscored the government’s proactive approach during crises, citing operations like Operation Devi Shakti, Operation Rahat, Operation Maitri, Operation Vaccine Maitri, and Operation Ganga, which brought back Indians stranded in conflict zones like Ukraine.
“Our COVID-19 management was exemplary, with the world’s largest and fastest vaccination program. India gave 220 crore free double doses of vaccines,” Nadda said.
Nadda also praised women’s increasing participation in high-profile sectors, including their role in the country’s space missions such as Chandrayaan.
Also, taking a swipe at Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for his recent criticisms of India’s foreign policy and Operation Sindoor, Nadda called him an “irresponsible opposition leader,” adding, “May God give him good sense.”
Summing up, Nadda reiterated the government’s mantra of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” (Together with all, development for all, trust of all, efforts of all) as the guiding principle behind its achievements.
The BJP marked the first anniversary of the Modi 3.0 government with a series of public outreach campaigns and press briefings highlighting key milestones in governance, welfare delivery, and national security.
Later, he visited an exhibition commemorating the 11-year milestone of the Narendra Modi-led government. The exhibition highlighted key achievements, policy reforms, and development initiatives implemented during PM Modi’s tenure since 2014.
Nadda’s visit comes as part of a series of events marking the government's anniversary, underlining its impact on governance, economic growth, and social welfare.
