The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Monday, issued a series of weather warnings for various parts of the country from 26 May to 1 June, predicting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, hailstorms, and dust storms.
These conditions pose risks of flooding, landslides, waterlogging, and disruptions to daily life in several states.
Kerala and Mahe The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places beginning Monday, continuing into the following days.
Karnataka Coastal and South Interior Karnataka will likely receive extremely heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, with heavy to very heavy rain continuing through the week.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal
Extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations is forecast on Monday, with heavy to very heavy rain persisting throughout the week. The IMD also predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
Maharashtra
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on select days. Konkan and Goa regions may experience similar conditions intermittently, with Mumbai and its suburbs advised to remain alert for waterlogging during intense rain spells.
Bihar and East Madhya Pradesh
On Monday, isolated heavy rainfall is projected, accompanied by thundersqualls with winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Widespread thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also forecast.
Rajasthan
Western Rajasthan is likely to experience dust storms and heat waves on Monday and Tuesday, with dust storms continuing into early June.
Gujarat
Isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds is forecast.
North Interior Karnataka
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over multiple days, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya
Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Assam and Meghalaya later in the week. Sporadic thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and hailstorms may occur in northern and central India, including this region.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura These northeastern states are forecast to receive intermittent heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated, with thunderstorms featuring lightning and gusty winds.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim Heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected through the week.
Himachal Pradesh Isolated thunderstorms with hailstorms are forecast on Tuesday, with likely impacts on agriculture and transportation.
