IMD issues heatwave warning for Northern and Central India; yellow alert issued till April 25

A heatwave warning has been issued for several areas across India, IMD has said. Other parts of India are likely to receive high rainfall.

IMD issues heatwave warning for several areas in India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several aread across the country. The warning has especially been issued for Northern and Central parts of India.

The alert has been issued for several areas including South Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Vidarbha. These areas now fall under the yellow alert from IMD - till April 25.

While a heatwave is likely to persist in these areas, places like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra will witness hot and humid conditions till April 25.

Northeastern states like Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram are likely to get heavy rainfall. IMD has also predicted scattered rainfall over Mahe and Kerala. Other parts of southern peninsular India is predicted to get gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning.

Lightning, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms have been predicted over parts of Uttarakhand today. IMD has also said that a cyclonic circulation related to a Western Disturbance is forming over West Iran and surrounding areas.
