IMC 2025: PM Modi says 1GB data costs less than cup of tea, quips 'special chai mention necessary'

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi making an indirect reference to detractors for their oft-repeated 'chai' jibe said that the telecom revolution has enabled India's masses to access 1GB of wireless data at a price that is lesser than a cup of tea.

Minutes after inaugurating the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2025), PM said: "India has launched its Made in India 4G Stack. This is a major indigenous achievement for the country. With this, India has joined the list of just five countries in the world that possess this capability..."

Earlier today, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, hailing India's strides in the domain of technology, said the recent success in the innovation space marks the nation's growing self-reliance and the recent foray into the semiconductor space is a prime example of that. Semiconductor chip is playing same role as charkha before the independence, remarked the minister.
