'If Muslims are disturbed, violence will erupt': Jharkhand leader warns of 'maar-kaat' amid Waqf protests

Shehzaad Poonawalla called Hafizul Hassan a hate monger

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hafizul Hassan has issued a "warning" saying that while Muslims are being patient right now, if disturbed, there would be an eruption of violence. "Maar-kaat hoga," Hassan said. This comes amid the anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act protests going on in several parts of India.

"Muslims are showing patience, but if disturbed, we will take to the streets, and violence will erupt — there will be chaos," Hassan was heard saying.

After Hassan made the remarks and a video of him speaking went viral on social media, Bharatiya Janata Party's Shehzad Poonawalla slammed him and called him a "hate monger".

Taking to X, he wrote, "Chilling warning by serial hate monger and Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hassan. This minister should be sacked. He has always put Shariah above sanvidhan. Now justifies anti-Hindu violence in name of Waqf portests."

Poonawalla also called Hassan a serial offender. "Hafizul Hassan is a serial offender. A week ago, he said that for him, Sharia is above the Constitution. Now, he says that: ‘You have disturbed the Muslims by bringing the Waqf Amendment Act. We will come out on the streets and beat people up. Muslims have patience, but they are not in the grave.’ A person who says such things, are they the protectors of the Constitution, are they the destroyers of the Constitution?"

Currently, West Bengal's Murshidabad is seeing the worst of anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act protests. Atleast three people have been found dead in protest-related violence.
