Hussain Sagar fire accident: 22-year-old succumbs to burn injuries

Ganapathi, a native of East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, tragically passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, following a fire accident at Hussain Sagar lake during the ‘Bharatha Matha Maha Harati’ event, The Hindu reported.  He had been serving as the fireworks in-charge on one of the boats when the incident occurred. With 10 years of experience as a firecracker expert, Ganapathi was overseeing the fireworks display when the fire broke out.

The event, hosted by the Bharath Matha Foundation, took place at the People’s Plaza on Necklace Road. It was attended by Bharatiya Janata Party state president G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. After the aarti concluded, Kishan Reddy authorized the fireworks, during which the tragic fire incident unfolded.

Ganapathi, who suffered 100% superficial burns in the incident on Sunday, January 26, 2025, was receiving treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. He succumbed to his injuries at 10:05 a.m. on Tuesday, with thermal burns confirmed as the cause of death. His body was later transferred to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Two other individuals, 20-year-old Sai Chand K and 47-year-old Chintala Krishna, were also injured in the incident but are reported to be in stable condition and undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
