A hunting trip in Maharashtra's Palghar district ended in tragedy when a villager was accidentally shot and killed by fellow hunters who mistook him for a wild boar.
According to a Times of India report, the incident took place on the night of January 28 in the Borsheti forest area at Manor.
Police said that a group of villagers had gone into the forest to hunt wild boars. During the hunt, some members of the group got separated. In the confusion, one of the hunters fired a shot, accidentally hitting two villagers. One of them died on the spot, while the other was seriously injured.
Instead of informing the authorities, the group panicked and hid the deceased's body in the bushes. The police were alerted after receiving a tip-off.
After investigations six villagers suspected of being involved in the incident were detained.
After an extensive search, the police found the highly decomposed body of the victim and sent it for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
As per the reports, the injured villager may have died during treatment, and the group allegedly cremated his body without informing the authorities.
The case is under investigation and an FIR has been launched.
