Union finance secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey on February 4 said high levels of taxation is counter-productive for the creation of jobs.
"We need more voluntary compliance. We must incentivise job creation and that's why high level of taxation is counter productive," Pandey said at a post-Budget conference organised by Assocham.
He further said that taxes have not been increased and the surcharges remain the same. "Our direction is expanding base, growing economy and so the taxes will also flow," the finance secretary said.
