'Have nothing to do with this': Anup Soni reacts to Congress ad featuring him ahead of Delhi polls

Actor Anup Soni’s video was allegedly used in a Congress campaign ad without his knowledge.

A video clip from his television work was used in the ad which was shared on the official X handle of the Congress. The video opens with a voiceover warning citizens against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. While the former CM is seen ringing a bell and asking to enter a house, the voiceover warns people of Delhi against letting him in.

“Dilli ki janta, savdhaan. 10 saal se yeh admi Dilli ki janta ko thag raha hain. Poore desh ko badhal banakar khud sheeshmahal mein mauj uda raha hain. Isko iss baar sabak sikhana hain. Iss baar darwaza nahin kholna hain (Stay cautious, Delhi. This is the person who has been looting the city for the past 10 years. While he enjoys life in mansions, he is turning the entire city into clouds. We must teach him a lesson and not open our doors to him this time,” the Congress ad stated.

In response, Soni issued a clarification on his X handle. “There is a small portion of my television work that has been used in this political campaign video. I have nothing to do with this,” he said.

Anup Soni began his career with roles in television serials such as Sea Hawks and Saaya. He then took a break from television to be part of films. He appeared in the 2003 films Kharaashein: Scars From Riots, Hum Pyar Tumhi Se Kar Baithe as well as Hathyar. In 2004, he appeared in Ashoke Pandit’s film Sheen. He returned to television to work in CID: Special Bureau. He is popularly known for hosting Crime Patrol.

Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi echoed BJP's “sheeshmahal” dig at Kejriwal. "You (Kejriwal) had said you would do clean politics, but committed the biggest liquor scam. We have also seen the picture of Kejriwal ji's house, he lives in sheeshmahal," Gandhi said.

The voting for all 70 assembly seats in Delhi will be held in a single phase on February 5. The election results will be declared after counting votes on February 8.
