A Class II student was murdered in his school hostel in Hathras earlier this week as part of a black magic ritual, police revealed on Thursday.

The ritual led to the arrest of five persons, including the director of D L Public School in Rasgawan, along with three teachers. Police also uncovered a previous failed attempt to sacrifice another child.

According to a report in The Times of India, police claimed that the child was sacrificed in a ritual meant to supposedly bring glory and success to the school.

Police have identified the suspects as the school director Dinesh Baghel, his father, Jashodhan Singh and teachers Laxman Singh, Veerpal Singh and Ramprakash Solanki. According to the report, Jashodhan Singh, who believed in black magic, convinced his son and the teachers that sacrificing a child would bring them prosperity.

The school, which has around 600 students, accommodates younger children in its hostel, including the victim. The boy, whose father is a software engineer in Delhi, was found unresponsive in his hostel bed on Monday. Instead of reporting the incident, school staff allegedly attempted to cover up the murder, driving around with the boy’s body in his car before the police intervened.
