The mother-in-law of Nikki, who was burnt alive after being thrashed over the demands of Rs 36 lakh dowry, has been arrested, DCP has confirmed. This comes after the arrest of Nikki's husband, Vipin, who is the main accused in the case.
Vipin Bhati, however, has shown no remorse for killing his wife Nikki after he thrashed her and burnt her alive. In fact, when asked if he hit her, Bhati said that it is very common for a couple to have fights.
"I have no remorse. I haven't killed her. She died on her own. Husbands and wives often have fights...it is very common," he said, as quoted by ANI, before saying that he will not be speaking on the matter any further.
Meanwhile, Vipin was shot by the UP Police on the leg during an encounter on Sunday. According to officials, Bhati, who is the prime accused in burning his wife to death on Thursday over a Rs 36-lakh dowry demand, was trying to escape from police custody, following which he was shot in his leg. Later, Bhati was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, horrifying videos emerged on social media, showing, Nikki, while she was set on fire, walking down the stairs. She was set ablaze in front of her son, who later confirmed that something was poured onto her before she was set on fire using a lighter.
Nikki's brother Rohit said that when she was married into the family, all their demands were met and a top model car was given to them. On Sunday, in an interview with NDTV, Nikki's father, Bhikari Singh Payla, demanded that the accused be shot dead in an encounter and their house be razed as punishment for the murder of his daughter.
