Customs officials have initiated an effort to nab the person who tried to smuggle gold bars worth Rs 2.6 crore to the country. The gold bars were recovered from a Jet Airways flight which landed at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday.
According to the investigating officials, the bars were hidden under a seat of a Dubai-Mumbai flight. They have sought the help of Jet Airways officials in order to ascertain the culprits.
"A routine post-flight cabin inspection of Jet Airways flight 9W 579 Dubai-Mumbai on April 24, 2018, led to the recovery of certain contraband items. Our security team immediately informed the local authorities who took the items in their custody," India Today quoted a statement from Jet Airways.
The investigating agency has procured the list of passengers and cabin crew who travelled on the Jet Airways flight 9W 579. They will be questioned one by one by the officials.
Customs officials said that gold worth Rs 2.60 crore was recovered at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai on Tuesday by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs.
As per the report, six gold bars each weighing more than 1Kg were found.
