A day after Wing Commander Namansh Syal's last rites were completed with full military honours in his ancestral village, Patialkar, in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, a short clip of the fateful crash capturing the final moments of the Tejas fighter jet has surfaced online.
Wing Commander Namansh Syal of the Indian Air Force lost his life in a tragic Tejas fighter jet crash at the Dubai Air Show on Friday.
The two-minute clip shows the IAF pilot executing a series of aerial manoeuvres before the aircraft suddenly lost control, plunged downward, and exploded into a fireball on impact. Going by preliminary footages it appears that the the crash occurred while Syal was performing a low-level display on the concluding day of the international aviation event.
Wing Commander Syal, an alumnus of Sainik School Sujanpur Tira, was commissioned into the IAF in December 2009. He had been posted at the Sulur Air Force Station in Tamil Nadu when his squadron was tasked with participating in the Dubai Air Show.
“In an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today, an IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands with the bereaved family in this time of grief," the Air Force immediately issued a statement after the crash on Friday, adding that a court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.
The IAF described Syal as a committed fighter pilot and an exemplary professional whose dedication and composure earned respect throughout his career.
