Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday conducted a detailed review of the flood situation in Jalna and Latur, directing district administrations to intensify relief and rescue operations and ensure citizen safety as heavy rainfall continues to lash the Marathwada region.

According to ANI, at a meeting with the Jalna District Collector, Fadnavis was told that 26 revenue circles had reported heavy rainfall and 48 out of 51 water projects were overflowing. Relief efforts so far have relocated 225 residents from Bhoipur, Arjunnagar, Lalbagh and Khandasari, while 52 citizens were rescued from floodwaters.

Since June, nine people have died in Jalna due to rain-related incidents, with compensation already provided to the families of seven victims.

Evacuations in Latur and Solapur

In Latur district, flood-affected areas included Ahmadpur, Nivdi, Udgir, Chakur, Renapur and Jalkot. More than 500 citizens were moved to relief camps, while officials reported that 60 roads and bridges submerged under water have since been cleared. The situation, the administration said, is “under control,” though NDRF teams remain on standby.

In Solapur, the CM was briefed that 4,002 people had been rescued since the onset of heavy rains, with 6,500 citizens currently staying in relief camps. These camps are equipped with food, water and healthcare facilities, while the Akshaya Patra Foundation has stepped in to provide cooked meals to affected villages.

Relief, compensation and fodder supply

To tackle fodder shortages for livestock, Fadnavis ordered immediate supply arrangements, with expanded distribution from Monday. The government is also conducting damage assessments of homes on a large scale.

As interim relief, affected families are being provided Rs 10,000 cash support along with 10 kg rice and 10 kg wheat. The Naam Foundation has also extended support, and local entrepreneurs and community leaders are being mobilised to strengthen relief planning.

Health camps, relief cells and long-term measures

District- and taluka-level relief cells are being established for better coordination, while the administration plans to launch large-scale health camps across affected regions from Monday.

Fadnavis emphasised that the government is committed to both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation, signalling closer coordination between state agencies, NGOs, and local community networks to respond to the Marathwada floods.
