Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 21 said  the Uniform Civil Code has been a BJP aim for a long time.

According to Shah, irrespective of religion, every Indian should live under one civil law. "This has no impact on religious freedom. Everyone is treated the same under the criminal law in India. Rejecting UCC is an appeasement policy by Congress," he said.
