India News Updates: Appointments committee approves promotion of three DIGs to Joint Director, CBI

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted approval for the Department of Personnel and Training's proposal to elevate Ashwin Shenvi, Sudha Singh, and Ashok Kumar, who are currently serving as Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to the position of Joint Director in the CBI.

Eight drug peddlers have been arrested by the police in an effort to crack down major drug network in the city.  SDPO West, Debaprasad Roy says, "Over the past few days, we have received information that some individuals have been selling drugs in the city area. Accordingly, we made our action plan. We have arrested eight people in this matter. We have recovered heroin, cash and mobile phones from them. They will be presented before the court. During the remand, we will interrogate them and recover further information."

Milind Bharambe, the Commissioner of Police in Navi Mumbai, announced a successful crackdown on drug cartels, revealing that over the past two years, around 100 African nationals were arrested in connection with drug trafficking. Additionally, nearly 1,300 African nationals were deported from the area, with their biometric data collected before departure. These individuals were either directly involved in the drug trade or had links to narcotics distribution.

Farmers in Punjab's Mansa district on Wednesday attempted to block a convoy carrying Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's mother as it passed through the village of Dhaipi. Protesters were seen jumping in front of the vehicles, prompting a heavy police presence in the area to maintain order.

A fire broke out in Tatanagar-Buxar Superfast Express earlier today. Several bogies of the train were immediately evacuated. No injury has been reported as of now. More details awaited.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttarakhand on March 6, according to an official statement from the PM's Office. Two workers lost their lives and another was injured when a slab collapsed at the Chikhla mines of Manganese Ore (India) Limited. The incident occurred at the Moil Chikhla, Vertical Two Underground Level 3, 100 meters below the surface. The injured worker was taken to Laksh Hospital in Bhandara for treatment. The bodies of the deceased workers were recovered and transported to Sub-District Hospital, Tumsar, for post-mortem, as confirmed by the District Disaster Management Cell, Bhandara.

The District Collector of Kannur has enforced a two-day ban on public gatherings in three wards of Ayyankunnu Grama Panchayat due to reports of a wild elephant spotted in residential areas. The restriction applies to wards 8, 9, and 10 from 10 am on March 5 to 6 pm on March 6, as a precautionary measure to protect public safety. Violators of the order will face legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

--The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of the 12.9 km ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath.

--The total capital cost of the project is Rs. 4,081.28 crore.

--The project will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model in partnership with the private sector.

--The ropeway will use the advanced Tri-cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology, capable of transporting 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction.

--The system will carry up to 18,000 passengers per day.

-- The ropeway will reduce the current 8-9 hour uphill trek to just 36 minutes.

--The development aims to foster balanced socio-economic growth and improve connectivity in hilly regions.

--The ropeway will provide all-weather connectivity between Sonprayag and Kedarnath, benefiting pilgrims and easing their travel experience.
