Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in a recent podcast, expressed high regard for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump referred to Modi as his 'friend' and described him as the "nicest human being".
Speaking about his assessment of world leaders on the Flagrant podcast, Trump said, “Modi (India), he's a friend of mine, he’s great. Before him being appointed as the Prime Minister, India was very unstable. On the outside, he looks like he's your father. He is the nicest and a total killer."
During the conversation, Trump also reminisced about the landmark "Howdy, Modi" event that took place in Texas in September 2019. At this event, Prime Minister Modi addressed a massive gathering of Indian-Americans at Houston's NRG Stadium.
"They did a thing called Howdy, Modi in Houston, Texas. It was me and him and it was beautiful. It was a gathering of around 80,000 people and it felt like crazy. We were walking around. We have a very good relationship. He is the nicest human being," he said.
Trump further highlighted there were some occasions “when someone was threatening India”, asserting that PM Modi would respond very differently in such situations.
“I said, let me help, I am very good with those people,” the former President said recalling those particular occasion. He quoted Modi’s firm stand, “I will do it. I will do anything necessary. We have defeated them for hundreds of times.”
“He was talking about a certain country; you can probably guess the country. But I said, whoa, what happened there? They are all tough and smart, and he’s a good person,” Trump continued, without naming the country.

The "Howdy, Modi" event was promoted as one of the largest receptions for a foreign leader in the US. The event at NRG Stadium saw a huge crowd and showcased the relationship between the two countries.
The former US president has praised PM Modi earlier too and has described him a "fantastic man".
