The report further said that the commercial aircraft fleet is expected to jump from 813 now to 1,300 in the next five years

Domestic civil aviation industry is likely to see a 80 percent jump in air passenger traffic in the next 5 years, jumping from 222 million flyers in 2023-24 to 400 million in 2028-29, an India Today report said.

The growth in the number of air passengers shows a post-pandemic surge and the need for an infrastructure overhaul to cater to the expected new demand.

The report further said that the commercial aircraft fleet is expected to jump from 813 now to 1,300 in the next five years and a rise in the number of passengers to 800 million from the current 550 million.

Meanwhile, a Guardian report said, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a UN organization that establishes international airline standards, is to unveil a revolutionary "digital travel credential" that may make check-in and boarding passes obsolete within three years.

Rather than getting a paper or electronic boarding pass, travellers would get a constantly updated "journey pass" on their mobile phone when they reserve a flight.

IndiGo was the most punctual airline operating in India in February 2025, for the third straight month in a row, data from the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation showed.
