Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that DMK is raising delimitation issue only to cover rampant corruption in Tamil Nadu.
"Delimitation issue is raised only in Tamil Nadu because of the upcoming state elections. Did the Centre announce Delimitation? Did me make Delimitation Act? Did we appoint any Supreme Court Judge in Delimitation Commission? DMK is only raising this issue because to cover rampant corruption in Tamil Nadu. I assure that nobody in the South India need to worry. BJP promises that no injustice will be done to anyone and seats will remain on pro rata basis," said Shah during Network 18's Rising Bharat Summit.
He then further said that first Delimitation Act will be created and all party consultation will be done.
Tamil Nadu's chief minister MK Stalin has raised concerns over number of parliamentary seats following upcoming delimitation. He had also asked Prime Minister Modi to promise that parliamentary seats of Tamil Nadu will remain unchanged following delimitation.
"Tamil Nadu and other states that have successfully controlled population growth will not be penalised in the impending delimitation exercise. Their share of parliamentary seats in percentage terms will remain untouched," Stalin posted on X.
"Hon'ble PM @NarendraModi should make this promise publicly, allay the fears in the minds of the people of Tamil Nadu, and follow it up with a constitutional amendment in Parliament. This is the only way to ensure a #FairDelimitation. I sincerely hope he will act," he added.
Political parties in Tamil Nadu have been demanding that the delimitation of constituencies should based on the 1971 population figures.
Stalin had earlier said that Tamil Nadu and other southern states would lose fair representation in Parliament if the delimitation was enforced on the basis of Census 2026.
