Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday got emotional as he shared details about the Bengaluru stampede which claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s IPL victory celebrations.
Apart from 11 deaths, more than 40 were injured in the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
“We must learn an administrative lesson, let the opposition do politics on dead bodies. I will list how many dead bodies they have done politics on. But it hurts to see the little children. I have seen their pain,” the deputy chief minister said.

The deputy chief minister has also apologised over the incident and said that they did not expect such a big crowd to turn up. The stadium's capacity was around 35,000 and more than 3 lakh people arrived, according to him.
The Karnataka government announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased killed in the stampede. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed a press conference and said the government would also provide free treatment to the injured.
"A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured," the CM said.
He also ordered a magisterial inquiry into this tragedy and said appropriate action will be taken against the guilty. "Instructions have been given to submit the investigation report within 15 days," the chief minister said in a post on X.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the chief minister said that the incident should not have happened. "The government will provide all assistance, including transportation, to the injured. It is not right to play politics in this matter," he said.
