In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell on Friday arrested two suspected ISIS operatives who were allegedly planning a terror attack in a high-footfall area of the national capital.
The suspects, both identified as Adnan, and residents of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, were apprehended following coordinated raids in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar and Bhopal, based on specific intelligence inputs, officials said.
Planned attack thwarted
A senior police officer said the arrests came just in time to prevent a possible terror strike in Delhi. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were associated with ISIS and were in the process of planning a major terror attack in Delhi,” the officer said.
Police said electronic devices and incriminating materials were seized from the duo’s possession during the search operations.
Links to ISIS under investigation
According to officials cited by PTI, the two accused were reportedly undergoing training for ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attacks and had been radicalised online by ISIS handlers. The Delhi Police are now probing their wider network to trace potential links to other operatives in Madhya Pradesh and beyond.
“The interrogation is underway to ascertain their connections, funding routes, and possible targets in the city,” police said.
