The father of the class 10 student who ended his life over alleged mental harassment said that over the last eight to ten months, the boy had been complaining that his teacher scolds him for everything.

“The teacher complained to me about his mischievous behaviour. Despite our insistence, she continued to torture him. We told him we would change schools as soon as he passed 10th grade,” Pradeep Patil told ANI.

“Three days ago, just before his board exam prelims, he was threatened with expulsion,” he added, noting that he couldn’t bear the humiliation.

According to police, the class 10th boy jumped from the Rajendra Place Metro Station platform at 2.34 pm on Tuesday and was taken to BLK Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A senior officer told PTI that a suicide note was recovered in which the student blamed certain teachers for his mental anguish, called for strict action, and expressed a wish for his organs to be donated.

The boy’s friends stated that the alleged harassment began in class 8. One insisted that on the day of the incident, the 16-year-old boy had told them in their Drama club that he wanted to be "the next Shah Rukh Khan of St Columba's," but a teacher mocked him for "overacting" and humiliated him after he slipped and fell.

Another friend claimed he tried to stop the boy, in deep distress, from running out of the school premises, but was pushed away.

"Scolding is one thing, but constantly humiliating someone for even minute mistakes in front of everyone is unacceptable. The teachers were not just reprimanding, they were targeting, and this is being done with many of us," he claimed, according to a PTI report.

Family members and friends of the Class 10 student protested outside St Columba’s School on Thursday, seeking firm action against the teachers and responsibility from the school administration.
