The Delhi High Court, on June 15, directed Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to remove a video recording of court proceedings related to the excise policy case from social media platforms on Saturday. The video shows Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, addressing a trial court.
A bench comprising Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Amit Sharma issued notices to six individuals, including Sunita Kejriwal, and social media platforms X, Meta, and YouTube, following a petition that alleged a violation of the Delhi High Court's video conferencing rules.
The high court also instructed social media platforms to remove similar content if it is reported as re-posted. The court issued an ex-parte interim order and scheduled the next hearing for July 9.
The petition filed by lawyer Vaibhav Singh was under consideration. Singh's petition stated that Arvind Kejriwal, after his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case, addressed a trial court in person on March 28.
A video recording of these proceedings was subsequently posted on social media platforms, which is prohibited by the High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts, 2021. The video was allegedly reposted by Sunita Kejriwal and others.
